소성 카올린, 함수 카올린, 및 탄산 칼슘의 미립자 재료와 관련하여 본 명세서에서 사용된 바와 같은 "소수성"이라는 용어는 상기 입자의 표면이 상기에서 기술한 바와 같이 소수성 습윤제를 가함으로써 소수성이 되는 것을 의미하여야 할것이다.
본 발명의 목적에 적합한 바람직한 미립자 재료의 예로는 엥겔하드 코포레이션(Engelhard Corporation; Iselin, NJ)에서 상품명 트랜스링크 (Translink)(등록상표)로 판매되는 실록산 처리된 소성 카올린 및 잉글리쉬 차이나 클레이(English China Clay)로부터 상품명 슈퍼코트(Supercoat)(등록상표) 및 코타마이트(Kotamite)(등록상표)로서 판매되는 스테아르산 처리된 중질 탄산 칼슘이 있다.
본 명세서에서 이용되는 "미분된"이란 용어는 미립자 재료가 약 10 마이크론 미만, 바람직하게는 약 3 마이크론 미만, 보다 바람직하게는 약 1 마이크론 이하의 중간 단일 입도를 갖는 것을 의미한다. 본 명세서에서 사용된 바와 같은 입도 및 입도 분포는 마이크로메리틱스 세디그라프 5100 파티클 사이즈 어날라이저 (Micromeritics Sedigraph 5100 Particle Size Analyzer)로 측정된다. 친수성 미립자에 대한 측정값는 탈이온수 중에서 기록된다. 분산액은 건조 시료 4 g을 플라스틱 비이커에 계량하여 넣고 분산제를 가하고 탈이온수로 80 ㎖ 표시선까지 희석함으로써 제조된다. 이어서, 슬러리를 교반시키고 초음파조에서 290초 동안 경화시킨다. 전형적으로는, 카올린의 경우 분산제로서 0.5% 테트라소듐 피로포스페이트를 사용하고, 탄산 칼슘의 경우 1.0% 칼곤(Calgon) T를 사용한다. 각종 분말에 대한 전형적인 밀도는 세디그래프로 프로그램되며, 예를 들어 카올린의 경우 2.58 g/㎖이다. 시료 셀을 시료 슬러리로 충전시키고 X-선을 기록하고 스토크스(Stokes) 방정식으로 입도 분포 곡선으로 변환시킨다. 평균 입도는 50% 수준에서 측정하였다.
바람직하게는, 미립자 재료는 최대 90 %의 입자가 약 10 마이크론 미만, 바람직하게는 5 마이크론 미만, 보다 바람직하게는 약 1 마이크론 미만의 입도를 갖는 입도 분포를 갖는다.
본 발명에 사용하는데 특히 적절한 미립자 재료는 비독성이다.
미립자 재료는 바람직하게는 비독성이며, 이러한 재료가 생리학적으로 비독성이고 절지류 거동에 영향을 미쳐 절지류 감염을 감소시키는데 필요한 제한된 양으로 포유류, 조류 및 어류 뿐만 아니라, 절지류, 환경, 도포자 및 궁극적인 소비자에게 유해하지 않다고 간주되는 것을 의미한다.
이 처리는 원예 작물에 도포할 때 실질적으로 상기 작물의 표면상에서의 가스 교환에 영향을 미쳐서는 안된다. 입자 처리를 통과하는 가스는 전형적으로는 살아있는 식물의 표면 표피를 통해 교환되는 것들이다. 이러한 가스는 전형적으로는 수증기, 이산화 탄소, 산소, 질소 및 휘발성 유기물을 포함한다.
보호될 표면은 소성 카올린, 소수성 소성 카올린, 함수 카올린, 소수성 함수 카올린, 소수성 탄산 칼슘, 탄산 칼슘 및 이들의 혼합물로 이루어지는 군으로부터 선택되는 1 종 이상의 미립자 재료를 절지류 감염으로부터 표면을 보호하는데 효과적인 양으로 처리된다. 상기 표면의 처리 도포 범위는 통상적인 숙련자들의 기술 범위내에 있다. 완전한 작물 도포 범위로도 효과적인 질병 억제, 보다 부드러운 과일 표면, 감소된 줄기 및 과일 균열, 및 감소된 적갈색과 같은 추가의 잇점을 제공할 수 있음에도 불구하고, 전체 표면 도포 범위 미만도 본 발명의 범위내에 있으며, 예를 들어, 원예 작물과 관련하여 본 발명의 방법에 의하여 처리될 필요가 있는 작물의 표면 이하(광원에 직접적으로 노출되지 않는 곳) 및 완전하게 도포될 작물의 상부 표면 어느 곳에서나 고도로 효과적일 수 있다. 이들 추가의 잇점을 얻기 위한 방법에 관한 교시를 위해 본 명세서에 참고로 삽입된 미국 특허 출원 제08/972,648호("Treated Horticultural Substrate"라는 발명의 명칭으로 1997년 11월 18일자로 본 명세서와 동시에 출원됨)를 참고할 수 있다. 본 발명의 방법은 처리된 표면상에 상기 미립자 재료의 하나 이상의 층을 형성하는 처리의 잔사를 생성시킬 수 있다.
본 발명의 목적에 유용한 미립자 재료는 더스트로서 또는 물, 저비점 용매 또는 저비점 유기용매/물 혼합물과 같은 휘발성 액체중에 미분된 입자의 슬러리로서 도포될 수 있다. 보조제, 예를 들어, 계면활성제, 분산제 또는 분무제/점착제(접착제)를 본 발명 미립자 재료의 수성 슬러리를 제조하는데 혼입할 수 있다. 이 슬러리의 하나 이상의 층을 표면에 분무하거나 그렇지 않으면 도포할 수 있다. 휘발성 액체는 바람직하게는 코팅중에 증발되어야 한다. 이 처리의 잔사는 친수성이거나 소수성이다. 더스트로서 입자의 도포는 본 발명의 방법을 수행하기 위한 다른 방법으로서 상기 입자를 보호될 표면상에 직접 스프링클링, 포울링 또는 더스팅하여 성취할 수 있다.
본 발명에 유용한 입자와 혼합되어 처리될 표면상에 처리의 분무를 균일하게 하도록 보조할 수 있는 음이온성, 양이온성 또는 비이온성인 계면활성제 및(또는) 분무제/점착제는 개질된 프탈릭 글리세롤 알키드 수지, 예를 들어, 롬 앤 하스사(Rohm & Haas Co.)로부터의 락톤 B-1956; 식물유, 예를 들어, 면화종자유, 또는 살스버리 랩(Salsbury lab, Inc.)로부터의 씨-웨트(Sea-wet)와 같은 유화제를 갖는 식물유 기재 재료(코코디탈리미드); 중합체 테르펜, 예를 들어, 드렉셀 케미칼사(Drexel Chem. Co.)로부터의 피넨(Pinen) II; 비이온성 세제(에톡실화된 톨 오일 지방산), 예를 들어, 스티브(Steohan)으로부터의 톡시뮬(Toximul) 859 및 니넥스(Ninex) MT-600 시리즈이다.
입자 처리를 미분된 미립자 재료의 하나 이상의 층에 적용할 수 있다. 도포되는 재료의 양은 당업계의 통상의 기술을 가진자들의 기술 범위내에 있다. 이 양은 이들 입자가 도포되는 표면상에서 절지류 거동 및(또는) 군체 형성을 방제하거나 그렇지 않으면 효과를 미치는데 충분할 것이다. 예를 들어, 이는 전형적으로는 약 2-3 g/cm3의 비밀도를 갖는 입자를 위한 표면 cm2당 약 25 내지 약 5,000 마이크로그램, 보다 전형적으로는 약 100 내지 약 3,000 마이크로그램, 바람직하게는 약 100 내지 500 마이크로그램의 미립자 재료를 도포함으로써 성취할 수 있다. 또한, 환경적인 조건, 예를 들어, 바람 및 비가 보호된 표면에 대한 미립자 재료의 도포 범위를 감소시킬 수 있고, 따라서, 상기 입자를 1 회 이상 보호될 표면에 도포하여 본 발명이 목적하는 효과를 유지하는 것이 본 발명의 범위내에 있다.
본 발명에 유용한 유기 약체는 바람직하게는 수혼화성이고 1 내지 6 개의 탄소 원자를 함유한다. 본 명세서에 사용된 바와 같은 "저비점"이라는 용어는 일반적으로 100 ℃ 이하의 비점을 갖는 유기 액체를 의미하여야 할 것이다. 이들 액체는 고체 미립자가 현저하게 응집하지 않고 미분된 형태로 유지되도록 할 수 있다. 이러한 저비점 유기 액체로는 알콜, 예를 들어, 메탄올, 에탄올, 프로판올, i-프로판올, i-부탄올 등, 케톤, 예를 들어, 아세톤, 메틸 에틸 케톤 등, 및 시클릭 에테르, 예를 들어, 에틸렌 옥시드, 프로필렌 옥시드 및 테트라히드로푸란을 예로들 수 있다. 상기에 언급한 액체들의 조합 또한 사용할 수 있다. 메탄올이 바람직한 저비점 유기 액체이다.
본 발명의 목적을 위하여 입자들을 표면에 도포하는데 저비점 유기 액체를 사용할 수 있다. 전형적으로는, 액체는 미립자 재료의 분산액을 형성하는데 충분한 양으로 사용된다. 액체의 양은 전형적으로는 분산액의 약 30 부피 % 이하, 바람직하게는 약 3 내지 약 5 부피 %, 가장 바람직하게는 약 3.5 내지 약 4.5 부피 %이다. 미립자 재료를 바람직하게는 저비점 유기 액체에 가하여 슬러리를 형성시킨 후, 이 슬러리를 물로 희석하여 수성 분산액을 형성시킨다. 생성된 슬러리는 미분된 형태의 입자를 보유하고, 대부분의 입자는 약 10 마이크론 미만의 입도까지 분산된다.
다음 실시예는 본 발명의 실시태양의 예시이며 출원의 청구범위 형성 부분에 의해 한정되는 바와 같이 발명을 제한하는 것으로 의도되지는 않는다.
〈실시예 1〉
꿀벌 성체를 실록산, 트랜스링크(Translink)(상표명) 77로 처리하여 급성 독성 친수성 카올린을 소수성으로 만들었다. 메탄올 2 ㎕중에 안정화된 상이한 농도의 카올린에 노출시킨지 48 시간 후 몰 %를 측정하였다. 사망율은 비처리된 대조구 및 용매 대조구와 비교하였다. 매 처리 당 3회 도포으로 20 마리의 꿀벌 성체에 국소적으로 도포하였다. 데이터는 엥겔하드 코포레이션의 와일드라이프 인터내셔날, 리미티드(Wildlife International, Ltd.)(Proj. No. 469-101)에 의하여 수행된 급성 꿀벌 독성 시험의 요약이다.

〈실시예 2〉
비처리된 대조구 및 독성인 종래의 살충제와 비교하여 암 딱정벌레 성체를 실록산, 트랜스링크(상표명) 77로 처리하여 친수성 카올린의 급성 독성을 소수성으로 만들었다.
4 gal 메탄올중에 현탁되고 100 gal 물에 첨가된 25 파운드의 재료를 도포하였다. 이들 처리를 과수원 권총형 분무기를 사용하여 총 배출량 125 gal/acre으로 도포하였다. 단일 나무에 반복적으로 처리 당 5 회 재처리하였다. 각각의 처리되 나무를 기준으로 직경 3 피트내의 땅위에 죽어 있는 암 딱정발레의 수를 세어 암 딱정벌레 사망율을 측정하였다. 각 처리된 나무내의 총 수를 세어 처리된 나무내에 살아있는 암 딱정벌레 수에 대한 도포의 유해 효과를 측정하였다. ANOVA를 사용하여 데이터를 분석하고 P=0.05에서 최소 중요 차이 방법(the least differences method, LSD)을 사용하여 평균을 비교하였다.

데이타는 실록산 처리된 소수성 카올린 입자, 트랜스링크(상표명) 77이 이 화합물로 처리된 나무내에서 암 딱정벌레 개체군에 비처리된 대조구와 비교하여 유해하지 않다는 사실을 나타낸다. 또한, 암 딱정벌레는 독성 화학약품, 아그리멕(Agrimek)(상표명)으로 처리하였음에도 불구하고 트랜스링크(상표명) 77의 처리에 의하여는 살상되지 않았다. 이 연구는 트랜스링크 77이 유익한 암 딱정벌레에는 비독성이라는 사실을 나타낸다.
〈실시예 3〉
이 실시예는 카올린 및 탄산 칼슘 입자 배리어가 배 실라(pear psylla)에 기생하는 알을 어떻게 방충하고(하거나) 억제하는지를 입증한다. 10 마리의 성체를 수화되고, 소성되었거나 실록산 또는 스테아르산염으로 처리되어 소수성이 된 다양한 형태의 탄산 칼슘 및 카올린 입자로 처리된 배나무 잎내에서 자유롭게 채집하였다. 휴대용 분무기를 사용하여 잎들에 물중의 5 % 입자 및 10 % 메탄올을 포함하는 용액을 분무하였다. 처리는 비처리 및 10 % MEOH 대조구를 포함하였다. 5 개의 배 실라 성체 교배쌍(n=10)을 11 개의 입자 및 비처리된 대조구 처리 모두를 함유하는 제한된 영역 내에 풀어놓았다. 이 실험을 램덤한 블록 디자인으로 5 회 재실험하였다. 성체 및 알의 수를 영역내에 풀어놓은 지 24 시간 후에 기록하였다. 데이타를 ANOVA 분석하고, LSD(P=0.05)를 사용하여 평균을 분리하였다.

결과는 소수성 또는 소성 카올린 또는 소수성 탄산 칼슘 입자 처리된 배나무 잎상에 고정되지 않는다는 점에서 이들 입자들이 성체에 방충성이라는 사실을 입증한다. 데이타는 친수성 재료가 소성되거나 소수성으로 될 때 이들 입자들의 방충 성질이 증가한다는 사실을 나타낸다.

"레드 델리셔스" 사과 나무에 하기의 처리를 하였다 : 1) 처리하지 않음, 2) 실록산 처리된 소수성 카올린 입자, 트렌스링크(상표명) 77을 1997년 3월 11일에 시작하여 매주 도포함, 3) 소성 친수성 카올린 입자, 사틴톤(상표명) 5HB를 1997년 4월 29일에 시작하여 매주 도포함 및 4) 스테아르산염 처리된 소수성 탄산 칼슘, 슈퍼코트(SuperCoat)(상표명)(잉글리쉬 차이나 클래이로부터 상업적으로 시판됨)을 1997년 4월 29일에 시작하여 매주 도포함. 카올린 및 탄산 칼슘을 4 gal 메탄올중에 현탁되고 물 100 gal에 첨가된 재료 25 파운드에 도포하였다. 27 oz 니넥스(Ninex)(상표명) MT-603 및 2 핀트 톡시뮬(Toximul)(상표명)을 가하면서, 물 100 gal에 현탁되어 있는 재료 25 파운드에 사틴톤(상표명) 5HB를 도포하였다. 이들 처리를 과수원용 분무기를 사용하여 총 배출량 125 gal/acre로 도포하였다. 처리를 4 회 재처리 및 3 나무/플록으로 랜덤하게 완성된 블록 디자인으로 배열하였다. 처리는 세척되지 않았고, 1997년 5월 1일 부터 8월 30일까지 강우량 21.58 cm를 수용하였다. 과일을 성숙기에 수확하고, 수확시 과일 수를 세었다. 데이타를 편차 분석(ANOVA)을 사용하여 분석하고, 처리 평균을 P=0.05에서 최소 중요 차이 방법을 사용하여 분리하였다.

카올린 처리 10 회 도포후, 동일하거나 보다 우수한 진드기, 멸구 및 삽주벌레 억제 수준을 나타내었다. 탄산 칼슘 처리로 진드기 및 멸구를 제외하고 카올린 처리에서와 동일한 억제 수준을 나타내었다. 카올린 및(또는) 탄산 칼슘 처리는 비치리된 대조구 블록과 비교하여 현저하게 보다 낮지 않거나 증진된 유익 절지류 수를 나타내었다. 임의의 처리에 있어 아무런 식물 독성도 나타나지 않았다.
이 데이타로부터의 결론은 카올린 및(또는) 탄산 칼슘 처리가 유익 절지류에 해를 기치지 않고 광범위한 절지류 해충에 대하여 효과적이라는 것이다.
〈실시예 5〉
비처리된 대조구와 비교하여 실록산 처리된 소수성 카올린 입자, 트랜스링크(상표명) 77의 6 주 간 도포 후 검은딸기에 있어 절지류 해충 억제하였다. 처리를 메탄올 4 gal에 현탁되고 물 100 gal에 첨가된는 재료 25 파운드를 도포하였다. 이들 처리를 과수원용 분무기를 사용하여 총 배출량 125 gal/acre로 도포하였다. 처리 당 3 회 재처리하였다. 처리 당 10 말단으로부터 말단 당 평균수로서 절지류 수를 측정하였다. 1997년 6월 24일 측정하였다. 데이타를 편차 분석을 사용하여 분석하고 처리 평균을 P=0.05에서 최소 중요 차이 방법(LSD)를 사용하여 분리하였다.

Claims (9)
- 소성 카올린, 소수성 소성 카올린, 함수 카올린, 소수성 함수 카올린, 소수성 탄산 칼슘, 탄산 칼슘 및 이들의 혼합물로 이루어지는 군으로부터 선택되는 1 종 이상의 미분된 미립자 재료 유효량을 작물의 표면에 도포하는 단계를 포함하는 것을 특징으로 하는, 작물의 표면을 절지류 피해로부터 보호하는 방법.
- 제1항에 있어서, 미립자 재료가 미립자 중 최대 90 %가 10 마이크론 미만의 입도를 갖는 입도 분포를 갖는 방법.
- 제1항에 있어서, 상기 소수성 소성 카올린, 소수성 함수 카올린 및 소수성 탄산 칼슘이 유기 티탄산염, 유기 지르콘산염 또는 알루민산염 커플링제, 유기관능성 실란, 개질된 실리콘 유체 및 지방산 및 이들의 염으로부터 선택되는 재료로 제조된 소수성 외표면을 갖는 방법.
- 제1항에 있어서, 표면이 농작물 및 관상 작물로부터 선택되는 원예 작물인 방법.
- 제4항에 있어서, 원예 작물이 과일, 채소, 나무, 꽃, 풀, 뿌리, 종자 및 조경 및 관상 식물로 이루어지는 군으로부터 선택되는 방법.
- 제1항에 있어서, 미분된 미립자 재료가 약 3 마이크론 미만의 중간 단일 입도를 갖는 방법.
- 약 1 마이크론 미만의 중간 단일 입도를 갖는 소성 카올린, 소수성 소성 카올린, 함수 카올린, 소수성 함수 카올린, 소수성 탄산 칼슘, 탄산 칼슘 및 이들의 혼합물로 이루어지는 군으로부터 선택되는 1 종 이상의 미분된 미립자 재료 유효량을 과일, 채소, 나무, 꽃, 뿌리, 및 조경 및 관상 식물로 이루어지는 군으로부터 선택되는 원예 작물의 표면에 도포하는 단계를 포함하며, 도포된 상기 미립자는 상기 작물의 표면상에서 가스의 교환을 가능하게 하는 것을 특징으로 하는, 상기 작물을 절지류 피해로부터 보호하는 방법.

- 농작물의 표면에 인조 구조물 및 토양, 소성 카올린, 소수성 소성 카올린, 함수 카올린, 소수성 함수 카올린, 소수성 탄산 칼슘, 탄산 칼슘 및 이들의 혼합물로 이루어지는 군으로부터 선택되는 1 종 이상의 미분된 미립자 재료 유효량을 도포하는 단계를 포함하는 것을 특징으로 하는, 표면을 절지류 피해로부터 보호하는 방법.
