Claims (38)
- 배기 시스템; 및 사용시 충분한 질소 산화물(NOx) 또는 HC를 포함하는 배기가스 및/또는 필터 내에 미립자 물질(PM)을 연소할 만큼 충분히 고온인 배기가스를 연속적으로 또는 간헐적으로 제공하기 위한 엔진 관리 수단을 포함하는 디젤 엔진으로서, 상기 배기 시스템은 5㎛ 내지 40㎛의 평균 세공 직경, 적어도 40%, 선택적으로 50% 내지 70%의 공극률, 및 500℃에서 적어도 0.50 J㎝-3K-1의 벌크 체적 열용량을 갖는 다공성 재료로 제조된 미립자 필터를 포함하며, 상기 필터는 필터의 전단부 상에 위치한 첫 번째 촉매 구역 및 필터의 하류에 위치한 적어도 하나의 촉매 구역을 포함하는 복수의 촉매 구역을 포함하고, 이때 첫 번째 촉매 구역은 일산화탄소(CO), 탄화수소(HC) 및 일산화질소(NO)를 산화하기 위하여 적어도 하나의 백금족 금속(PGM)을 포함하는 디젤 산화 촉매(DOC)를 포함하며, 적어도 하나의 하류 촉매 구역은 적어도 하나의 PGM을 포함하고, 첫 번째 촉매 구역과 적어도 하나의 하류 구역 사이에 백금족 금속 촉매 로딩에 길이방향 기울기가 존재하며, 첫 번째 촉매 구역의 백금족 금속 로딩이 적어도 하나의 하류 구역보다 더 큰 것을 특징으로 하는 디젤 엔진.
- 제 1 항에 있어서, 백금족 금속 촉매 로딩의 길이방향 기울기는 단계적 길이방향 기울기인 것을 특징으로 하는 디젤 엔진.
- 제 1 항 또는 제 2 항에 있어서, 필터의 상류 단부가 배기 매니폴드 또는 터빈으로부터 1m 이하에, 선택적으로는 50cm 이하에 배치된 것을 특징으로 하는 디젤 엔진.
- 제 1 항 또는 제 2 항에 있어서, 필터는 벌집의 형태를 가지며, 벌집은 입구 단부와 출구 단부 및 입구 단부에서 출구 단부까지 연장된 복수의 셀을 가지고, 셀은 다공성 벽을 가지며, 전체 셀 중 일부는 입구 단부에서 그 길이 부분을 따라 막혀 있고, 입구 단부에서 개방된 셀의 나머지 일부는 그 길이 부분을 따라 출구 단부에서 막혀 있어, 입구 단부로부터 벌집의 셀을 통과하여 지나가는 배기가스 스트림의 흐름이 셀 벽을 통하여 개방 셀 쪽으로 흘러가고, 출구 단부에서 개방 셀을 통과하여 필터로부터 빠져나오는 것을 특징으로 하는 디젤 엔진.
- 제 1 항 또는 제 2 항에 있어서, 필터 재료는 세라믹 재료를 포함하며, 선택적으로 탄화규소, 질화 알루미늄, 질화규소, 티탄산 알루미늄, 알루미나, 소결 금속, 근청석, 멀라이트, 폴루사이트, 서멧 및 탄화규소와 질화규소의 혼합물로부터 선택되는 것을 특징으로 하는 디젤 엔진.
- 제 1 항 또는 제 2 항에 있어서, 필터는 그것의 길이의 적어도 일부를 따라서 미립자 내화 산화물을 포함하는 와시코트(washcoat)를 포함하는 적어도 하나의 구역을 포함하며, 두 구역 이상이 와시코트를 포함하는 경우에, 각 구역은 다른 구역과 동일하거나 상이한 와시코트를 포함하는 것을 특징으로 하는 디젤 엔진.
- 제 6 항에 있어서, 적어도 하나의 와시코트 구역은 와시코트 두께의 길이방향 기울기를 포함하는 것을 특징으로 하는 디젤 엔진.
- 제 6 항에 있어서, 적어도 하나의 와시코트 구역은 와시코트 두께의 측 방향 기울기를 포함하는 것을 특징으로 하는 디젤 엔진.
- 제 1 항 또는 제 2 항에 있어서, DOC 및 적어도 하나의 하류 촉매 구역에 있는 적어도 하나의 PGM은 백금, 팔라듐, 로듐, 루테늄 및 이것들의 임의의 둘 이상의 혼합물로부터 선택되는 것을 특징으로 하는 디젤 엔진.
- 제 9 항에 있어서, DOC 내의 총 PGM 로딩 또는 DOC에 존재하는 각 PGM의 PGM 로딩은 25 내지 200g/ft3, 선택적으로 50 내지 150g/ft3인 것을 특징으로 하는 디젤 엔진.
- 제 10 항에 있어서, 적어도 하나의 하류 촉매 구역 내의 PGM 로딩은 0.10 내지 200g/ft3, 적합하게는 0.25 내지 120g/ft3, 선택적으로 1.00 내지 50g/ft3인 것을 특징으로 하는 디젤 엔진.
- 제 1 항 또는 제 2 항에 있어서, 각 촉매 구역은 동일한 또는 상이한 촉매를 포함하는 것을 특징으로 하는 디젤 엔진.
- 제 1 항 또는 제 2 항에 있어서, 적어도 하나의 촉매 구역이 촉매 로딩의 길이방향 기울기를 포함하는 것을 특징으로 하는 디젤 엔진.
- 제 1 항 또는 제 2 항에 있어서, 적어도 하나의 촉매 구역이 촉매 로딩의 측 방향 기울기를 포함하는 것을 특징으로 하는 디젤 엔진.
- 제 6 항에 있어서, 적어도 하나의 촉매 구역이 와시코트 구역과 동일한 필터 부분을 덮는 것을 특징으로 하는 디젤 엔진.
- 제 15 항에 있어서, 적어도 하나의 PGM은 와시코트의 미립자 내화 산화물 상에 지지된 것을 특징으로 하는 디젤 엔진.
- 제 6 항에 있어서, 미립자 내화 산화물은 벌크 세리아, 실리카, 알루미나, 티타니아, 지르코니아, 또는 이것들의 임의의 둘 이상의 혼합 산화물 또는 복합 산화물을 포함하는 것을 특징으로 하는 디젤 엔진.
- 제 1 항 또는 제 2 항에 있어서, 금속 촉매 성분 또는 각 금속 촉매 성분은 필터 재료 자체에 의해 지지된 것을 특징으로 하는 디젤 엔진.
- 제 1 항 또는 제 2 항에 있어서, 배기 가스가 희박할 때 필터는 NO2를 흡수하는 촉매를 포함하며, 이것은 선택적으로 알칼리 금속, 알칼리 토금속 및 희토금속 및 이들의 혼합물로부터 선택되는 것을 특징으로 하는 디젤 엔진.
- 제 19 항에 있어서, 사용시 엔진 관리 수단은 배기 가스의 산소 농도를 간혈적으로 감소시키고, 및/또는 NO2 흡수제를 재생하기 위한 정상 가동 조건에 비해 높은 온도의 배기 가스를 제공하는 것을 특징으로 하는 디젤 엔진.
- 제 1 항 또는 제 2 항에 있어서, 필터 내의 PM을 연소하기 위한 배기 가스에 충분한 NOx의 간헐적 공급이 배기 가스 재순환(EGR)의 비율의 조절에 의해 제공되는 것을 특징으로 하는 디젤 엔진.
