Abstract
PURPOSE:To control treated water to specified quality by recognizing the relation between the average stagnation time of the sludge in an activated sludge treatment system, nitrification rate and water temp. and setting the average stagnation time of the sludge conforming to the target value of the nitrification rate and water temp. CONSTITUTION:The characteristic curves indicating the relations between the average stagnation time (SRT) in the activated sludge treatment system 5 and the nitrification rate are stored for each of the average water temps. in a memory part 2. A nitrification rate control part 1 determines SRT in accordance with the characteristic curve group in the memory part 2 and outputs the same when the set value of the nitrification rate and the water temp. are applied thereto. An SRT control part 4 determines the amt. of the excess sludge to be discharged from the inside of the activated sludge treatment system 5 in a manner as to maintain the SRT at the set value and controls a discharge pump. The water temp. in the aeration tank in the treatment system 5 is detected at all times by a water temp. gage 3 and the nitrification rate control part 1 selects the characteristic curve corresponding to this water temp. from the characteristic curve group in the memory part 2 and determines the set value of the SRT in accordance with this curve and the target value of the nitrification rate. The amt. of the excess sludge is so controlled by the SRT control part 4 that the SRT attains the set value.
