Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the fatigue strength of a curburizing steel by limiting the contents of C, Si, Mn and Cr and preventing the generation of an imperfect hardened layer on the surface of a steel material. CONSTITUTION:The steel material consisting of, by weight, 0.1<=C<0.3, <0.10 Si, 0.80<=Mn<2.00, 0.80<=Cr<2.00 and the balance iron with impurities and in which the hardenability D'1 (inch) satisfies the formula of D'1 >=2.0Xphi<0.65>-6.4 is prepd.; where D'1=DICXFMnXFCr denotes the ideal critical diameter by C, N and Cr, DIC denotes fundamental hardenability, FMn and FCr denote the multiples of hardenability in each element as well as they are calculated value prescribed by the regulations of AISI and phi denotes the equivalent round bar diameter (mm). One or more kinds between <5.0% Ni and <1.0% Mo are preferably added to said compsn. as well, and/or one or more kinds between <0.010% P and <0.0020% O are preferably added thereto. By this method, the titled steel having fatigue resistance can be obtd.
