Abstract

PURPOSE:To develop a hard-facing steel superior in abrasion resistance and workability in an annealed state, by forming fine and spheroidized high hardness carbide in the surface carburized layer of an alloy steel of specific composition. CONSTITUTION:This is the alloy steel contg. 0.15-1.20% C, 0.1-1.0% Si, 0.1- 1.50% Mn, 3.0-20.0% Cr, or further, one or more kinds of 0.2-3.0% Mo, 0.2- 3.0% W, 0.1-1.0% V, or further one or more kinds of 0.01-0.50% Nb, 0.01- 0.50% Ti, 0.01-0.50% Zr, and has superior workability in an annealed state. This alloy steel is carburized at such temperatures at which the sturcture of the noncarburized part becomes gammaFe and M7C3 type, M23C6 type or the mixed structure of the special carbide in which these coexist. The carburized layer contg. A large amount of the spheroidized and fine special carbide is formed and the hard facing steel as a tool steel for cold working may be produced.
