Abstract
PURPOSE: To enable a carburizing steel to be carburized at a high temp. in a short time without requiring expensive Nb, V, Ti, etc. and causing the formation of coarse grains by adding Al and N to the steel in a specified ratio and adjusting the hot working temp. to ≥1,200°C.
CONSTITUTION: A carburizing steel for machine and car parts is carburized to enhance the wear and fatigue resistances. The steel contains 0.08W0.30% C, 0.05W 2.0% Si, 0.02W2.0% Mn, 0.020W0.035% sol. Al 0.014W0.018% N and ≥0.5% in total of one or more among <2.0% Cr, <5.0% Ni and <1.0% Mo and satisfies sol. Al/N≤2.05. By hot working this steel at ≥1,200°C the austenite grains of the core part of the steel can be kept at a fine grain size such as grain size ≥No.6 according to JIS G 0551 even if carburizing is carried out at 980°C for 6hr, so carburizing is completed at a high temp. in a short time.
