Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain a nonmagnetic steel having superior toughness, strength and corrosion resistance by subjecting a high Mn-high Cr steel having a specified compsn. to processing including strain working in a prescribed temp. range. CONSTITUTION:A steel contg., by weight, 0.06-0.15% C, 0.05-0.70% Si, 17-25% Mn, 15-23% Cr, <=1.5% Ni, 0.2-1.0% Mo, 0.03-0.15% Nb, <=0.030% Al, 0.40-0.65% N, <=0.006% O and <=0.012% S and satisfying equalities I, II is warm worked at 350-450 deg.C. The working rate is preferably 10-40% in case of the holding ring of a rotor. A high strength nonmagnetic steel obtd. by this invention has superior resistance to corrosion, pitting and stress corrosion cracking and does not form strain induced martensite even by working.
