Abstract
PURPOSE:To enhance the strength of a steel contg. a prescribed amount of C, Si, Mn, P, S, Nb, etc. while maintaining the toughness at low temp. by working the steel into a pipe by rolling under specified conditions and by aging the pipe. CONSTITUTION:A steel consisting of, by wt., <=0.18% C, <=0.50% Si, 0.50-2% Mn, <=0.03% P, <=0.006% S, <=0.15% Nb, <=0.06% Al and the balance Fe or further contg. one or more among <=0.15% V or <=0.15% Ti, <=0.50% Mo, <=0.50% Cu, <=3% Ni, <=0.6% Cr, <=0.04% REM, <=0.01% Ca or <=0.01% Mg, and <=0.04% Zr is worked into a steel pipe by rolling at <=1,180 deg.C heating temp., >=65% reduction ratio at <=950 deg.C, and <=750 deg.C final finish temp. The worked steel pipe is then aged at 100-400 deg.C.
