Abstract

PURPOSE: To effectively remove nitrogen from waste water in simplfied operation, by removing nitrogen of nitrogen compounds, in the waste water outside the system by repetition of oxidation by aeration and reduction by maintaining the waste water under an anaerobic condition after introduction of crude waste water, in a gaseous state outside the system.
CONSTITUTION: In treatment of organic waste water containing nitrogen compounds which are irregularily discharged by small amount at high concentration in general, the waste water is aerated in the presence of active sludge until nitrogen in the nitrogen compounds is converted into a nitric or nitrous state. A next-day's part of crude waste water is added to at least a day's part of the nitrogen compound-cintng. organic waste water without inflow of oxygen, and the mixture being kept under an anaerobic condition is agitated. Thus, organic substances i the influent of the crude waste water are utilized as a hydrogen- donating source to reduce the nitric or nitrous nitrogen exsisting in the water. The reduced nitrogen is discharged in a gaseous state outside the system. After the reduction is continued for a certain period, the mixture is reaerated in the same way as aforementioned and let alone as such for a while. A part of supernatant is extracted. The same operation is repeated in succession.
