Abstract

PURPOSE: To purify the sewage efficiently at low running cost by a method wherein organic matter in the sewage is adsorbed to a filter humus and separated, and utilized as a carbon source of a succeeding denitrifying process.
CONSTITUTION: Sewage is introduced into a filter humus tower 21 from a line 1, and organic matter in the sewage is adsorbed to the filter humus and materialized. The waste water passing through the tower 21 is forwarded to a BOD oxidation tank 2 with the sewage bypassing the tower 21, and organic matter in the sewage is oxidized in an aerobic atmosphere, and separated into sludge and supernatant liquid in a sedimentation tank 4. The supernatant liquid is transmitted to a nitration tank 6, and a nitrogen compound in the liquid is nitrated to nitrate-nitrogen by nitrifying bacteria, and separated into sludge and supernatant liquid in a sedimentation tank 8. When the supernatant liquid is introduced into a denitrification tank 10 and filter humus sludge from a line 23 is admitted into the tank, the nitrate-nitrogen is reduced up to N2 by denitrifying bacteria while using the organic matter in the sludge as a carbon source. Thus, the sewage is efficiently disposed at low cost.
