Abstract
PURPOSE: To carry out denitrification and nitrification treatments in a single vessel with high efficiency, by feeding a highly concentrated waste liquid into a reaction with vessel provided with an aerator having a big oxygen-supply ability and packed highly concentrated active sludge.
CONSTITUTION: Waste water 1 is introduced through a line 2 into a reaction vessel 3, where it is treated with highly concentrated active sludge (10,000ppm more) for aeration form an air diffuser 4 having a big oxygen-supply ability. When the sludge concentration is high, the concentrations of organic substances and nitrogen are also high. Concequently, when aeration is done, an anaerobic zone is formed in flock and denitrifying reaction is extremely accelerated, while nitrifying reaction in the aerobic zone is also extremely accelerated. As a result, discharge of an alkali and its consumption is well balanced, and the reactions are promoted cooperatively. Thus, the water is denitrified and nitrified. An effluent 7 is introduced through a line 8 into a sedimentation vessel 9 at a later stage, where the effluent is subjected to solid-liquid separation. The liquid is returned through a line 11, while the sludge is returned through a line 12.
