Abstract

PURPOSE: To float and concentrate sludge by introducing part of the activated sludge of nitrification and denitrification processes into sludgh concentrating process and by utilizing nitrogen gas generated by the denitrification phenomenon of nitrogen oxides in the mixed liquid.
CONSTITUTION: BOD present in waste water is oxidized and ammonia present is nitrified to nitrogen oxides by introducing the waste water 1, e.g., sewage, etc., together with the returned activated sludge 5, into the nitrification process 2 under aerobic condition. Then, part of the sludgemixed liquor containing the nitrogen oxides of the nitrification process 2 is flowed into the mixing process 12 where it is mixed with the original water 9 or the reducing agent 6 and then transferred to the floating concentlation process 8, whereupon nitrogen gas generated by the denitrification phenomenon of nitrogen oxides is adhered to sludge and thereby sludge is floated and concentrated. Thus, the concentration of sludge can be economically performed with simple processes.
