Abstract

PURPOSE: In waste water treatment by active sludge, a part of mixture liquid in air exposing bath is introduced into sludge concentration bath, where nitrogen gas generated by denitrification is utilized to float and concentrate sludge in economical way.
CONSTITUTION: Waste water 1 such as sewage containing ammonia and returned sludge 4 are treated in the air exposing bath 2. The process decomposes BOD in the water 1 and transforms ammonia into nitrogen oxides. Active sludge mixed liquid in the exposing bath 2 is partly transferred to the mixer 5, where it is mixed with a part of waste water 8, and introduced into the float concentration process 6. There, nitrogen gas generated by denitrification of nitrogen oxides causes the sludge to be floated and separated, from which float sludge 7 is sent to sludge treatment. The separated water is returned to the exposing bath 2. Thus, the simple equipment economically concentrate sludge to clean waste water.
