Abstract

PURPOSE: To raise the efficiency of denitrification, by supplying an organic carbon substance to a section which is in short of the organic carbon substance for the denitrification while causing processed water to flow in one direction.
CONSTITUTION: Processed water is sequentially conducted through a first, to a fifth aeration vessels A1WA5. After removal of an organic carbon substance, nitrification and denitrification are effected in the aeration vessels, the processed water is conducted to a settling pond 2 so that the solid and liquid are separated from each other and the water is drained. The second and other succeeding aeration vessels A2WA5 are equipped with a measuring instrument 3 for measuring the organic carbon substance content of the processed water and with an analyzer 4 for detecting the nitrogen content of the water. The constituents of the processed water are thus detected. A pump 6 and cocks 7 are automatically operated depending on the result of the detection. An aeration vessel short of an organic carbon substance is detected from those A2WA5. Methanol 5 is supplied to the detected vessel to promote the operation of activated sludge necessary for denitrification. This results in effecting denitrification well in all the aeration vessels.
