Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve coke strength and to make an increase in the amount of low-grade coal possible, by a method wherein a plurality of kinds of briquetted coal are mixed with blended coal whose water content is adjusted to a value not higher than a specified value, part of coal is broken during transportation and then the mixture is dry-distilled.
CONSTITUTION: A binder is added to raw coal to be briquetted. The mixture is briquetted under pressure. In this manner, at least two kinds of briquetted coal, which has standard strength and thus is not so much broken during transportation, and briquetted coal having lower strength are prepared. These briquetted coal are added to blended coal whose water content is adjusted to 4% or lower. Part of said coal is broken during transportation. Then the mixture is dry-distilled. Heretofore, when at least two kinds of briquetted coal having different strength were added to blended coal and the mixing ratio of the briquetted coal exceeded 50%, charging bulk density was rapidly lowered and the strength of the resulting coke was also lowered.
