Abstract

PURPOSE: To manufacture low SiO2 sintered ore without causing a strength lowering by blending briquettes consisting of high grade iron ore contg. a little SiO2 and a CaO type additive into fine iron ore, carbon material, etc. as starting materials for sintered ore.
CONSTITUTION: In the manufacture of sintered ore for a blast furnace, molded briquettes consisting of high grade iron ore contg. a little SiO2 and a CaO type additive such as limestone, quick lime or gypsum are blended into blended starting material of usual fine iron ore and carbon material for fuel. When the materials are sintered, calcium ferrite is formed on the grain boundary of hematite in the iron ore to lower the SiO2 content of the resulting sintered ore as well as hold the strength of the ore. Accordingly, the sintered ore has high crushing strength and can be used sufficiently in a blast furnace. The formation of slag is reduced, the fuel ratio can be lowered, and the productivity of the furnace is enhanced.
