Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain low slag sintered iron ore with superior low temp. reduction powdering index and falling strength by regulating the grain size distribution of SiO2 and CaO sources in blended raw materials, and the total SiO2 content and basicity of the raw materials in manufacture of the ore.
CONSTITUTION: In sintering of fine iron ore with a Dwight-Lloyd type sintering machine, formation of blast furnace slag is reduced as the SiO2 and CaO contents of raw materials are lowered, yet the low temp. reduction powdering index of sintered ore is raised and the falling strength decreased. In blending of sintering raw materials, the total SiO2 content of the materials is regulated to below 5.4% and the basicity (CaO/SiO2) to 1.3W2.0. Assuming that the CaO and SiO2 contents of the blended raw materials are 100%, respectively, the grain size of CaO source such as limestone and that of SiO2 source such as silica are regulated so that more than 55% of each source is below 1 mm. The resulting sintered ore has superior characteristics such as small low temp. reduction powdering index and high falling strength although it is low slag ore.
