Abstract

PURPOSE: To produce a reduced pellet of high quality for a blast furnace or the like, by blending a pellet material with a prescribed quantity of barium oxide or the like to improve the strength of a raw pellet and lower the ratio of powdering during reduction in a kiln.
CONSTITUTION: A pellet material, to which lime and carbon powder may be added is blended with 0.1W10.0% (in terms of BaO value) of at least one of oxide, carbonate, hydroxide and sulfate of barium to prepare a raw pellet. This raw pellet is reduced in a kiln to produce a reduced pellet. The strength of the raw pellet is enhanced due to the addition of the Ba compound independently of the change in the added quantity of limestone. In the reduction, the powdering ratio is lowered and the production of fuse-bonded matters is decreased.
