CONSTITUTION: In manufacture of pellets using iron ore bearing SiO2 as a principal gangue component, scrap MgO fire brick or an MgO-contg. substance such as magnesite, brucite or sea water magnesia is added to the ore to adjust the ratio of MgO/SiO2 to 0.4 or more, and CaO-contg. starting material such as dolomite or limestone is added to adjust the ratio of CaO/SiO2 in the pellets to 0.4 or less. The pellets form molten FeO.SiO2 in the high temp. zone of a blast furnace, prevent lowering in reduction due to CO and gas permeability, and stabilize the furnace conditions.
