Abstract

PURPOSE: To manufacture blended raw material for sintered ore having superior thermal properties by adding MgO-contg. raw material to molten converter slag to slag the material followed by cooling, magnetic separation of iron and grain size regulation.
CONSTITUTION: 1W30Pts.wt. of a MgCO3-contg. mineral such as serpentine or dolomite are added to 100pts.wt. of molten converter slag and melted to slag the mineral. This mixed slag is cooled, solidified, coarsely crushed to about 60mm in size, and fed to a magnetic separator to remove iron contained. The iron-free slag is further crushed to 2W2.5mm in size and used as part of raw material for sintered ore of iron ore for a blast furnace. The MgCO3 in serpentine, dolomite or the like is decomposed into MgO and CO2, and it is in the form of MgO when used as raw material for sintered ore. Accordingly, no MgCO3 decomposition heat is consumed in sintering, resulting in high sintering thermal efficiency.
