Abstract
PURPOSE: To melt the iron dust and the like containing Zn produced in iron works at high temperatures in a cupola, recover the evaporated Zn, make its effective use and take out molten iron and molten slag from the furnace bottom.
CONSTITUTION: Powder coke as internally charging coal and, if necessary, iron sources such as sand iron and powder ore are added to the foregoing dust and the like which cannot be reused because of too much dust content. Next, a necessary amount of water is added to this mixture whose Fe content has been incresed. After the mixture is mixed and kneaded, it is compression-molded to make GP (green pellets). Next, the GPs are dried by such a method as making use of the waste heat of cupola exhaust gas, after which they are directly contacted with the base metal, such as cast iron, and coke and are reduced in the so-called cupola where the base metal is melted by the combustion heat of coke. Air is then fed into the exhaust gas being formed to oxidize the evaporated Zn to ZnO, after which the crude ZnO is recovered with a cyclone and bag filter. On the other hand, the molten iron from the tapping port of the furnace is flowed into a mold to make mold pig iron. The molten slag is taken into a ladle and is flowed to a slag processing shop, where it is disposed by disintegrating after cooling.
