Abstract
PURPOSE: To provide a slag forming material for steel making furnaces which is made easy to react with molten slag by using MgO particles as an essential component, and mixing this with a mixture of blast furnace slag and fluorite, etc. then molding and granulating the mixture.
CONSTITUTION: 90W50wt% dead-burnt MgO particles such as magnesia bricks of waste materials, magnesia powder of α or β mixed type and 10W50% additives consisting of a mixture of blast furnace slag and fluorite are compounded. Or further, ores such as vermiculite, obsidian and pearlite which expand by the effect of heat, and materials such as CaCO3 and MgCO3 which release gases abruptly at high temp. are added to the additives. This compounded mixture is molded and granulated, whereby a slag forming material for steel making is prepd. When this slag forming material contacts with the high temp. slag in a furnace, it disperses to fine grains quickly, thereby expanding the reaction areas with the slag.
