Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain a slag making material with superior addition efficiency for metal refining by pulverizing and classifying Al dross to take out Al residual ashes, mixing metallic Al dust contained in the dross into the ashes as a principal component, and forming the mixture into lumps with an adhesive.
CONSTITUTION: Al2O3-base Al dross contg. metallic Al and formed in the melting of Al or regenerated Al is pulverized and classified to take out ≤60 mesh Al2O3-base Al residual ashes contg. a very small amount of Al dust. An adequate amount of Al particles contained in the ashes-free Al dross is mixed into the ashes as a principal starting material. This mixture is formed into 2W50g lumps and solidified with an adhesive such as CMC, sodium silicate, pitch or cement. Since the resulting slag making material for refining is not powder, it is not blown away when added to molten metal or molten slag in a metal refining furnace, a ladle or the like to carry out deoxidation, reduction or slag making. The presence of Al2O3 prevents the useless oxidation of Al, and this slag making material shows superior characteristics.
