Abstract

PURPOSE: To considerably improve the low temp. reduction powdering index of sintered ore by controlling the grain size of starting materials and the SiO2 content of the ore to specified values in manufacture of the ore.
CONSTITUTION: Fine iron ore, limestone, silica, recovered materials, coke, etc. as starting materials for sintered ore are pulverized so that 25W60wt% of the total amt. becomes 1mm or less in grain size. The amt. of SiO2 in the starting materials is controlled so as to lower the SiO2 content of manufactured sintered ore to 5.4wt% or less. In addn., the amt. of SiO2 in fine grain starting materials of 1mm or less is adjusted to 50wt% or more of the total SiO2 content. The starting materials thus adjusted in grain size and compsn. are mixed, granulated, and sintered. This sintered ore has an enhanced low temp. reduction powdering index without increasing the coke blending ratio and the slag content, that is, the total amt. of CaO, SiO2, etc., and it does not undergo deteriorations in productivity, coke unit and falling strength.
