Abstract

PURPOSE: To make an increase in the ratio of briquetted coal to be added possible and to produce coke economically by increasing the ratio of low-grade coal in coal to be charged, by adding at least two kinds of briquetted coal having different strength and consisting of low-grade coal and a binder, to blended coal.
CONSTITUTION: Not less than 10wt% binder such as coal pitch is blended with not more than 90wt% low-grade coal (FSI: 0W1, flow index: 0W10 D.D.P.M., total expansion index: 0). The mixture is kneaded at a temperature not lower than the softening temp. of the binder, and briquetted under pressure to produce briquetted coal. Part of the resulting briquetted coal is crushed and to the crushed product is added a binder such as coal pitch. The mixture is briquetted under pressure to produce briquetted coal having different strength from that of the above briquetted coal. Then a plurality of briquetted coal having different strength are added to blended coal (FSI: 3W9, volatile matter: 25W33%). The mixture is dry-distilled in a coke oven to produce coke from coal contg. low- grade coal in a high proportion.
