Abstract

PURPOSE: To produce metallurgical briquette coke without pollution, by high- temperature carbonization of molded coal which is obtained by blending finely divided coke as a main raw material with finely divided caking coal and a binder.
CONSTITUTION: A) 50W75 wt. % of finely divided powder coke having particle diameters of about 0.1W0.5 mm as a main raw material is blended with B) 15W 40 wt. % of a caking coal having a particle size similar to that of the coke and a fluidity not less than 1,000 ddpm (Giesler) and C) 3W10 wt. % of a binder, e.g., asphalt deasphalted by propane and pitch, capable of improving a handling strength after molding and a bond strength in a stage of carbonization, to form briquette, which is carbonized at 1000°C. The powdered coke produced in a coke oven is usable as a metallurgical coke required at a iron mill.
