Abstract

PURPOSE: In steel making in an electric furnace using as an essential material reduced iron, to use as a recarburizer a briquette fabricated by pulberulent reduced iron and a coke powder thereby to stably make steel of a target carbon content.
CONSTITUTION: Reduced iron manufactured by a direct reduced iron manufacturing method has a carbon content smaller than an iron oxide content. Therefore, in manufacturing a steel of a target carbon content a recarburizer is required. Upon this occasion, as a recarburizer there is used a mixed briquette of a pulverulent reduced iron and a coke powder. The mixing ratio of the reduced iron pulverulent body to the coke powder is 80:20, and as binders approximately 3% of molasses and 2% of slaket lime are added to mix with said recurburizer. This mixing materials are formed into a briquette having a dimension of 40mm×25mm by a briquette making device. This briquette is molten in an electric furnace together with reduced iron to make steel. Depending upon the target carbon content of the steel the blending quantity of the briquette is adjusted
