Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve the capability of dehydratng sludge remarkably by neutralizing a ferrous material, added to organic sludge, with a magnesium alkali agent or calcium carbonate while oxidizing it into a ferric material.
CONSTITUTION: Sludge 1 containing organic materials is introduced into the 1st stirring tank 2, where ferrous sulphate 3 is added as a ferrous material. Further, magnesium hydroxide 5, for example, is added in the 2nd stirring machine 4 to increase its pH to about 5W6. This sludge is flowed into an aeration tank 6, where an aeration treatment is carried out with gas 7 containing oxygen to oxidize ferrous ions added to the sludge, and consequently while close sediment consisting essentially of crystalline Fe(OH)3 is formed, organic materials in the sludge are made to aggregate, thereby improving the property of dehydration remarkably. Then, a mechanical dehydrater 8, e.g., a filter press separates low-content-rate dehydrated cake 9 and dehydrated separate water 10.
