Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve the facility for dehydration of sludge in a solid-liquid separation step, by reacting waste water or sludge containing COD components with an oxidizing agent and a specified metal, and subjecting the waste water or sludge to a magnesium neutralization before the solid-liquid separation step.
CONSTITUTION: Waste water or sludge 1-1 containing COD components is introduced into the first mixing vessel 9, where it is mixed with a substance 2, such as ferrous sulfate, capable of dissociating metal ions in an aqueous solution. The waste water or sludge is then introduced into the second mixing vessel 10, where it is mixed and reacted with an oxidizing agent 3 such as hydrogen peroxide. Thereafter, the waste water or sludge is mixed with a magnesium-based alkali 4 such as magnesium oxide in the third mixing vessel 11 to neutralize it at pH6W7 or so. The adjusted sludge 5 is separated into dehydrated cake 7 and separated water 8 by dehydration with a dehydrator 6. In this process, crystalline precipitates with good facility for dehydration can be obtained in the third mixing vessel 11. Consequently, the water content of the dehydrated cake 7 becomes lower, and the clogging of a filter cloth scarcely happens.
