Abstract
PURPOSE: To perform sludge concentration accurately and to decrease electric power consumption by adding ferric chloride and a high polymer flocculant to org. sludge, concentrating the same by screen gravity dehydration and dehydrating the concd. sludge formed by this with a mechanical dehydrator.
CONSTITUTION: Ferric chloride 2 is added to excess sludge 1 of activated sludge and these are intimately mixed, after which perferably an alkali agent 3 such as slaked lime is added to control pH to a neutral region. Thence, a high polymer flocculant 4 such as nionic polymer, anionic polymer or the like is added to form flocs, after which the flocs are subjected to gravity dehydration with a stationary type inclined wedge wire screen 5, whereby they are separated to separated water 6 and concd. sludge 7. The sludge 7 is dehydrated as it is without addition of any chemical with a filter press 8, and is separated to dehydrated cake 9 and filtrate 10. When ferric chloride 11 or ferrous sulfate 12 and hydrogen peroxide 13 are added to the sludge 7, dehydration characteristics are improved.
