Abstract
PURPOSE: To reduce the volume of generated sludge and to enhance the facility for dehydration of the sludge, by adding iron ions or the like in waste water to generate flocks, adding a mineral acid and an oxidizing agent thereto, and then dehydrating the flocks.
CONSTITUTION: Stock water 1 is mixed with a liquid 2 containing Fe ions, Al ions, Cu ions, etc. which is returned from a dehydrator 9, to form flocks composed mainly of Fe(OH)2 in a flocculator 3. The flocks are then precipitated in a coagulation sedimentation pool 4, and the waste water is separated to purified water 5 and thickened sludge 6. The sludge 6 is mixed with a mineral acid 7, e.g. sulfuric acid, and agitated in the first mixing vessel 14. The sludge is then mixed with an oxidizing agent 8, e.g. H2O2, and agitated in the second mixing vessel 15. Thereafter, the sludge is carried to the dehydrator 9, e.g. a filter press, where the sludge is separated to dehydrated cake 10 and separated water 11-1. The separated water 11-1, containing ferric ions and the like, is returned as a flocculant and added to the stock water 1.
