Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce the amounts of COD and coloring matters present in effluents without the needs for coagulation and sedimentation processes by a method in which an oxidant and a specific metal salt are added to a slurry coming out of a biological treatment process for a waste liquid and then the slurry is subjected to dehydration, etc.
CONSTITUTION: A mixed slurry composed of effluent slurry 6 and concentrated supernatant water 5 from a biological treatment plant 2 for organic waste liquid, e.g., night soil 1, etc., is flowed into a chemical mixing tank 7, where the mixed slurry is mixed with a chemical agent 12 composed of an oxidant, e.g., H2O2, etc., and an iron salt capable of forming hydroxyl radical from the oxidant added, e.g., FeSO4, etc. Then, the mixed slurry so treated is separated into cake 9 and separated water 10 by a mechanical dehydrator 8. The separated water 10 is isolated by an alkali 13 and flowed into a sedimentation basin 11, where SS composed of Fe(OH)3, etc., separated out by neutralization reaction is separated as sediment 15. The sediment 15 is returned to the chemical mixing tank 7.
