Abstract

PURPOSE: To reuse a metal ion-dissocciating substance, by adding an oxidizing agent and a metal ion-dissocciating substance into organic substance-contg. sludge, reacting the mixture in an acidic range, neutralizing the resulting effluent, and treating the formed precipitation with a mineral acid.
CONSTITUTION: Sludge 1 is mixed with a metal ion-dissocciating substance 3, such as a ferric salt, and an oxidizing agent 4, such as H2O2 (and sulfuric acid 9', if necessary) in an agitating vessel 2. The mixture is agitated at pH3-4 or so for a certain period. The mixture is then separated into dewatered cake 6 and an effluent 7 by a dehydrator 5. The effluent 7 is neutralized at pH5-8 or so by the addition of an alkali 9, such as a Mg compound or the like, in a neutralizing vessel 8. A high- molecular flocculant 10 may be added to the neutralized effluent, if necessary. The effluent is separated into a precipitation 13 mainly composed of metal hydroxides and a supernatant 12 in a sedimentation pool 11. The supernatant 12 is drained, while the precipitation 13 is adjusted at pH1.5 or so and dissolved by the addition of a mineral acid 15 in an acidic dissolution vessel 14. The dissolved liquid 16 is recycled to the vessel 2.
