Abstract

PURPOSE: To raise the dehydrating property of sludge, shorten the time of filtration, and reduce the volume and weight of dehydrated cake by bringing sewage to be treated by activated sludge or sludge discharged from factory effluent into contact with O3 in the presence of Fe ion prior to dehydration.
CONSTITUTION: The sludge from the activated sludge treatment of sewage, factory effluents, etc., is mixed, prior to dehydration, with approx. 300W6000ppm (based on sludge) of Fe ion, e.g., FeCl2, FeCl3, FeSO4, etc., and then brought into contact with approx. 500W3000ppm (based on sludge) of O3. Thus, the miniaturization of dehydrator and the reduction of dehydrated cake can be attained, so that space required for dumping site can be reduced. In addition, because the inorganics content of the dehydrated cake is low, the combustibility of the cake goes high.
