EXAMPLE: 7β-[ 2-Amino-2 ( 4-hydroxyphenyl ) acetamide ]-α-methoxy-3-[ ( 1-carboxymethyl-5-tetrazolyl)thiomethyl]-3-cephem-4-carboxylic acid trifluoroacetate.
USE: Intermediate of medicament: for example, the amino group in the compound of formulaIis acylated with an appropriate carboxylic acid to give an antibacterial with high activity.
PREPARATION: A compound of formula II (R2 is amino-protecting group) is made to react with more than 3 equivalents, preferably 4W10 equivalents of alkali metal methoxide such as lithium methoxide in the presence of a halogenating agent such as t-butyl hypochlorite. Then, protecting groups are removed to give the compound of formulaI. There is no need of protection of carboxyl groups in this process, being industrially excellent.
