Abstract

NEW MATERIAL:An aminoglycoside derivative (acid addition salt) shown by the formula I (R1 and R2 are H or OH; n is 1W3).
EXAMPLE: 1-N-[L-(-)-γ-amino-α-hydroxybutyryl]-3',4'-dideoxy-4"-C-methyl-3"-C- methylkanamycin A or its 4" epimer.
USE: An antibacterial agent for infectious diseases caused by various kinds of bacteria.
PROCESS: A protecting group is introduced into the amino group at the 6'-position of a compound shown by the formula II, preferably in a solvent at about normal temperature to give a reaction product, which is reacted with a compound shown by the formula III (or its reactive derivative at the carboxyl group) preferably in a solvent at about room temperature to give a compound shown by the formula IV. The amino-protecting group is removed to give a compound shown by the formula I.
