Abstract

NEW MATERIAL:A 4,2'-di-N-substituted derivative of fortimicin B of formula I: [R1 is group of formula -CO-R3(R3 is aminoalkyl group; etc.; R2 is group of formula -CO-R4(R4 is aminoalkyl group, etc.)] and its acid addition salt.
EXAMPLE: 2'-N-Hydantoyl fortimicin C.
USE: Antibacterials and antimicrobials.
PROCESS: Fortimicin B of formula II is reacted with an acylating agent of the formula R'4COOH(R'4 is amino protective group) in a suitable solvent to form a compound of formula III, which is then reacted with an amino protective reagent to give a compound of formula IV: (R5 is amino protective group). The resulting compound is acylated with a compound of the fomula R3COOH(R3 is amino protective group). The protective groups R5, R'3 and R'4 are removed by the well-known method to give the compound of formula I.
