Abstract

NEW MATERIAL:A 1-sulfo-2-oxoazetidine derivative of formula I (R1 is amino group which may be acylated or protected; X is H or OCH3).
EXAMPLE: Pyridinium 3-phenylacetamido-2-oxoazetidine-1-sulfonate.
USE: A remedy for bacterial infection.
PROCESS: A compound of formula II (R is acylated or protected amino group) is sulfonated, and if necessary the protecting group is eliminated to give the compound of formula I. Alternatively, a 3-amino-1-sulfo-oxoazetidine derivative is acylated to form the compound of formula I (R1 is acylated amino group).
