Abstract
NEW MATERIAL:A diamino acid derivative of formula I (n is an integer 2W4).
EXAMPLE: (L) γ-Dimethylamino-α-aminobutyric acid hydrochloride.
USE: Useful as an antimicrobial agent against Gram-negative bacterial.
PROCESS: One mole compound expressed by formula II obtained by linking a protecting group to the amino group at the α-position of an (L) diamino acid, particularly α,γ-diaminobutyric acid, ornithine or lysine, is reacted with 2mol HCHO in the presence of a reducing agent, e.g. NaBH4, to give a compound expressed by formula IV. The protecting group of the amino group at the α-position is then removed to give the compound expressed by formula I. The reaction is easily carried out in an organic solvent mixed with water in a suitable proportion under the conditions of an alkaline pH.
