Abstract

NEW MATERIAL:A 4,4'-bis(aminomethyl)-secalonic acid of formulaIand a salt thereof.
EXAMPLE: 4,4'-Bis(aminomethyl)-secalonic acid D hydrochloride.
USE: An antitumor agent, capable of showing a powerful carcinostatic action with low toxicity, and useful as an intermediate for preparing other medicines.
PROCESS: A compound of formula II is treated with a hydrazine, e.g. hydrazine hydrate or hydrazine acetate, to give the compound of formulaI. The reaction is carried out in the absence of a solvent or in a solvent, e.g. chloroform or methanol, at -30W100°C, preferably 0W80°C, for 0.5W48hr. The amount of the hydrazine to be used is in the range 1W100mol, preferably 2W50mole, based on one mole compound of formula II.
