PURPOSE:To detect the leakage of vacuum, by making a vessel vacuous partially to get a prescribed degree of vacuum in a very short time. CONSTITUTION:When a roughing-down pump 11 is operated, the part of a space C between inside and outside cylinders 3 and 4 has a negative pressure, and parts of contact faces (h) and h' are adhered closely. When the operation of a pump of a leakage detector 12 with a vacuum pump is started after the space C is made vacuous in a certain degree, the part of a space B has a negative pressure. If the leakage of vacuum exists in a space A because of some defect of a nozzle 2, the space A is not made vacuous in a prescribed degree; and a time required for obtaining a prescribed degree of vacuum in the volume of the space A is detected preliminarily to discriminate the leakage of vacuum in some part of the nozzle 2. If the defect is small and the quantity of leakage of vacuum is small, the outside of the nozzle 2 is covered with a vinyl sheet 10 to form a space D, and a proper quantity of detecting gas is charged into the space D, and thus, it is confirmed by the leakage detector 12 with a vacuum pump whether the leakage of vacuum exists or not.
