Abstract

PURPOSE:To detect a defect in the sealing of a body to be inspected, by providing a liquid chamber for gas leak detection and detecting an air bubble produced in the liquid photoelectrically. CONSTITUTION:A nozzle 33 whose tip opening 33b is arranged in the liquid in a liquid storage container 28 is connected to an air pressure source 1 through ducts 25 and 4a. The upper space 32a in the liquid chamber 32 is connected to the body 14 to be inspected through ducts 26 and 4b. The air pressure source and body to be inspected are equalized in pressure by piping 3 which is not shown in a figure. Then a valve 9 provided on the piping 3 is closed to shield the air pressure source 1 and body 14 from each other. If the body 14 defective in sealing, an air leak is caused and the pressure in the upper space 32a of the liquid chamber 32 drops through the piping 4b. Then air from the air source 1 is injected into the liquid chamber 32 through the nozzle 33, so an air bubble is produced in the liquid. The photosensor consisting of a projector 35A and a photodetector 35B detects the air bubble to detect the air leak in the body.
