Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain a superhigh-pressure sintered material having high hardness and excellent in wear-resistance, thoughness and high-temperature strength, by converting a binder phase for cubic boron nitride grains into the structure that hard carbunitride is precipitated in a W-Ti-C-N alloy matrix.
CONSTITUTION: The superhigh-pressure sintered material has the composition of, by weight, 15W80% W, 0.8W20% Ti, 0.1W4.0% C, 0.1W3.0% N subject that the formula is satisfied, and the balance being cubic boron nitride (mentioned as CBN) (provided that the content of CBN is 18W60%) and inevitable impurities. A binder phase for CBN grains comprises the structure that hard carbunitride grains are precipitated in a W-Ti-C-N alloy matrix. The material may optionally contain 0.1W2% of one or more of Al, B, Zr and Si (as toughness-enhancing components) and/or 0.1W2% of one or more of Ni, Co, Fe, Mn and Cu (as strength-enhancing components) in addition to W, Ti, C and N.
