Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain the titled compound useful as a raw material for a phptosensitive dye, etc. contained in photographic sensitive materials, etc. in high yield, by hydrolyzing a 3-carboalkoxypyrazolo [1,5-a]pyridine derivative, and decarboxylating the hyduolysis product.
CONSTITUTION: A 3-carboalkoxypyrazolo [1,5-a] pyridine derivative expressed by formulaI(R1, R2, R3and R4 are H, alkyl, aryl, etc.; R5 is H, alkyl, etc.; R6 is alkyl, aralkyl, etc.) is hydrolyzed with an alkali, and decarboxylated in the presence of a catalyst, preferably copper oxide, to give a 2-substituted pyrazolo [1,5-a] pyridine derviative expressed by formula II. The hydrolysis is carried out in a solvent, e.g. a lower alcohol or THF, with a base, e.g. a caustic alkali, e.g. KOH, at a reaction temperature of optimally 50W60°C. The decarboxylation reaction is carried out in the presence of cuprous oxide as a catalyst in an amount of 5W10wt% based on the carboxylic acid and at 150W250°C in the absence of the solvent.
