Abstract
PURPOSE: A specific 6-(Δ2-oxazoline-2-yl)pyrido[2,3-d]pyrimidine derivative is used as the starting material to be hydrolyzed, thus producing title compound useful as an antibacterial.
CONSTITUTION: The hydrolysis of 6-(Δ2-oxazoline-2-yl)pyrido[2,3-d]pyrimidine derivative of formula I (R1 is 1-pyrrolidinyl, 1-piperazinyl, 4-acyl-1-piperazinyl, 4-trimethyl-1-piperazinyl; r2, R3, R4, R5 are H, lower alkyl) is effected using a basic catalyst to form the compound of formula II (R1 is 1-pyrrolydinyl). The compound of formula I is novel, for example, prepared by reacting 2-substituted- 4-ethylaminopyrimidine-5-carboxylic chloride with 2-methyl-Δ2-oxazoline in the presence of phenyl lithium and being followed by acting ethyl orthoformate on the reaction product.
