Abstract

PURPOSE: To treat a large amount of nitrogent-containing sewage such as fecal sewage to a high degree by a method wherein the sewage aerated in an intermittent aeration tank is subjected to a precipitation treatment, the resultant supernatant liquid is discharged, and then the discharged liquid is nitrified, followed by denitrification.
CONSTITUTION: Firstly, the sewage is continuously fed into the intermittent aeration tank 1 without any restriction according to the treatment cycle in the tank 1. The interior of the tank 1 is controlled, for example by a timer or the like, so as to repeat the steps of aeration, subsequent precipitation and discharge of the resultant supernatant liquid for respectively predetermined periods of time. In adition, the sewage continuously fed into the intermittent aeration tank 1 is effectively denitrified in the second inflow part 5 under an anaerobic condition, and then flows into a main aeration chamber 6 over a weir 3. In the aeration chamber 6, the aeration is conducted by a gas diffusing nozzle 8, and the removal of BOD and nitirification are conducted.
