Abstract
PURPOSE: To treat ammonia containing waste water in an economical manner, by nitrifying waste water such that ammonia is left in waste water, subsequently subjecting the same to denitrification treatment, and then recirculating a portion of the denitrified water to said nitrification process while subjecting the remaining portion of the denitrified water to complete nitrification and denitrification.
CONSTITUTION: Waste water 1 to be treated is introduced into a first denitrification process 7 together with sludge 6 restored from settling basin 4 after condensation and separation therein and a portion of denitrified liquid 11 supplied from a first denitrification process 8, and at the process 7, waste water is nitrified (by way of NO2 type nitrification) such that ammonia is left in waste water at a certain range of concentration. Then, it is introduced into the first denitrification process 8, where NO2 generated at the first nitrification process 7 is denitrified. Then, a portion of denitrified liquid 11 from process 8 is recirculated to the first nitrification process 7, while the remainder is introduced into a second nitrification process 9, where ammonia left in the denitrified liquid is nitrified completely. Thereafter, at a second denitrification process 10, denitrification is completed and waste water is separated into solid and liquid in a settling basin 4. Concentrated sludge deposited on the bottom of basin 4 is returned to the first nitrification process 7.
