Abstract
PURPOSE:To simultaneously remove organic substance and nitrogen component from the waste water in the process of organic waste water treatment by a method wherein an adjustment is made on the amount of dissolved oxygen in the treating water in the first stage treating tank, and the treated water is returned from the downstream to the first stage. CONSTITUTION:The organic waste water is biologically treated in the treating tanks 8-12 in a submerged type fixed formation filter bed. In this process, the dissolved oxygen concentration in the treating water in the first stage treating tank 8 is controlled low, 0.2-2mg/l. In the second stage treating tank 9, the state of nitrogen is converted from ammonia to nitric acid. Such treated water is returned to the first stage treating tank 8 in the amount of 0.5-5 times that of the raw waste water supplied. This causes the first stage treating tank 8 to perform oxidation-decomposition of BOD component in the waste water. At the same time, the returned water from the second stage 9 is subject to denitrification from an organic carbon source in the raw waste water 7.
