Abstract
PURPOSE: To obviate the production of excessive sludge and make the treatment conforming to the characteristic of waste water possible by using ≥2 tanks, using any one or more tanks as denitrifying tanks and the others as nitrifying tanks and selectively operating these successively alternately.
CONSTITUTION: Waste water 1 contg. ammoniacal nitrogen and BOD components is supplied into a denitrifying tank 2, where it is made into in-tank waste water 6. This waste water is discharged through multiple holes 10a, 11a toward packing material 4 and is uniformly circulated in the packing material 4 in downward flow. Nitrifying water contg. NO2-N and the like is returned and circulated from a nitrifying tank 3 to the lower part of the packing material 4, then the NO2-N and the like in the nitrifying water is denitrified by the denitrifying germs on the surface of the packing material 4 with the BOD components in the inflow waste water 1 as nourishing sources, and this yields denitrifying tank treated water 13. The treated water 13 is supplied to the tank 3, where it is aerobically treated by the effect of the microbes of the packing material 5, whereby the NH2-N and the like are nitrified and the BOD components are removed.
