Abstract

PURPOSE:To flatten the discharge characteristic of a battery, which contains both lithium used as a negative active meterial and manganese dioxide used as a positive active material, by immersing the positive mixture subjected to heat treatment in a dehydrated organic solvent, before the positive mixture is used for assembling the battery. CONSTITUTION:An organic electrolyte battery includes lithium 3 used as a negative active material, and a positive mixture 5 which is prepared by treating manganese dioxide and is used as a positive active material. The positive mixture 5, before it is used for assembling the battery, is subjected to heat treatment at 250- 450 deg.C, and is immersed in a dehydrated organic solvent containing either an aromatic hydrocarbon such as n-hexane, or a hydrocarbon halide such as methylene chloride at a normal temperature for 2 to 3 days. As a result, since the reaction products developed during the heat treatment of the positive mixture 5 are eluted in the organic solvent and are eliminated, the battery can provide a flat discharge characteristic of below 3.2V from the initial stage of the discharge. Besides, the increase in the internal resistance of the battery caused during the preservation can be reduced to a large extent.
